For those of you that don’t know, I am an avid baker outside of the salon.

I am also a jam enthusiast. As a side note, may I recommend the jam tasting available at the Swanton Berry Farm in Davenport. A favorite of mine being there pecan scones with ollalieberry jam. Wow.

Back to baking, I decided to combine two delights, that being baking cookies and enjoying jam, to create the Jam filled Butter Cookies via allrecipes.com. I added a splash of vanilla to the recipe, because if there is one thing my mom taught me about baking, it is that vanilla (pure, of course!) makes everything taste better! And it certainly did.

Now what kind of friend would I be if I didn’t share my baked goods? Brought these adorable cookies to work and they were gone by the end of the day! Another baking success story.

We all know that sometimes, washing your hair can be a bit of a pain. I personally avoid over-washing as to not dry out my already fragile, blond, baby fine locks. So while I struggle to keep the moisture sealed in the ends of my hair, the oil at my roots is a problem of the past! And this brings us to, what I’d like to call a miracle product, Kevin Murphy’s Fresh.Hair dry cleaning spray. Dry shampoos soak up the excess oil and odor from the scalp and can add great texture to the hair.

While there are many different dry shampoos out there to choose from, KM’s Fresh.Hair has all sorts of good stuff that makes it stand alone and above the rest. I must admit, I’m not the biggest fan of electronica but I can’t resist the catchiness of this song! Kaskade is a great dj and while I’ve never heard of Dragonette, I am charmed by their pop-synthesized sound. I advise you to purchase this song and let it inspire you through your day (and night)!

Lately I’ve been working on cleaning all the junk out of my room, getting rid of what I don’t need and organizing what I have. But once I could see the top of my desk, it filled back up again! Last week I pushed it all aside and set up a sewing/crafting center! So now I’ve been pulling out even more junk(cool fun craft junk though!) that was tucked away in Tupperware and piling the desk up again. It looks a mess, but it’s nice to at least have a place to see it all and use it. I’ve had so much fun finishing old jewelry projects and sewing fabric flower hair accessories. I’m loooooving my new craft corner! And now I have new fun hair accessories to go with my new fun bright blond hair!

It’s that time of year where we take out our shorts, skirts, dresses, tees, tanks, and our RAZORS. But why use razors, when you can wax? Waxing is another technique for hair removals. A sticky resin is applied to the skin where hair exists, and then a muslin strip will be used to pull the wax off in the opposite direction of the hair growth. It will achieve a cleaner, nicer, smoother, and sleeker look and feel! Completely take the hair from the root. Not only that, it will last for approximately 2 to 4 weeks! How cool is that!!!

Yesterday, I was able to hit the beach, and had the greatest time with my friends. It felt great wearing my shorts, and showing off my nicely waxed legs! We flew a kite, which I haven’t done in ages. We played in the sand and soaked our feet in the water – feeling the breeze, and watching the sunset was amazing! <3

A Trip To Remember

I was lucky enough to be able to take a trip this year. I travelled with a couple of good friends and we visited Ireland, Spain, and Greece. All of these countries were so fun and so different, all offering different surprises. Greece has always held a special place in my heart because one; i lived there when i was very young( so its like a second home) and two; the FOOD! You know what they say about the way to a (wo)mans heart is through his(her) stomach!

We stayed in a small village called Stoupa which is right in a bay of the Mediterranean sea where my parents own a house.

We stayed a couple weeks in Stoupa and probably all gained a few lbs.. thats what happens when you eat fabulous food every day.

Greek cuisine is amazing if you haven’t tried it. And of course it is better in Greece, but if you cant make it out there, try a couple of our Greek restaurants here in town- The Greek and Vasili’s are both great. YAMAS!

I don’t know about you, but everyone I know is off in far exotic destinations for summer! Be it the Hawaiian Islands, Mexico, Greece, or Spain to only name a few. As far as I’ve noticed, all the women in those locations have the most beautiful summertime beachy waves. If you’re like me, you’re staying home this summer but still want to achieve that pretty, no fuss hair.

My solution is one of my top favorites from Australian hair care line Kevin Murphy. It’s called Hair Resort and it’s exactly what I’m looking for–an oil free beach texturizer that defines long and fine hair. It has Honey Extract to seal in moisture and soften the hair to had flexibility, Citrus Grandis to promote hair growth (yay!), and Citrus Tangerina to lock the down the cuticle and add natural shine. The smell alone brings me to my very own tropical island. And best of all, it’s SO easy to use! Just apply it to damp hair, scrunch, and go! By the time my hair dries, I have that perfect, been in the ocean all day, beachy wave. Can’t get enough of this stuff!!

Aside from doing hair everyday, one of my true passions lies in makeup. There is something about transforming a person and seeing their reaction that makes me truely happy. This especially includes Brides and Bridal parties. Since it’s summer, we have been getting a lot of weddings here at the Platinum Lounge and I’ve had the pleasure of working on some incredible women.
