This last Sunday my boyfriend and I took a little trip out of town to the Monterey Bay Aquarium! Neither of us had been since we were very young and I was very excited!! All I remembered was being so tired from all the walking, and wow was this last experience very different.

They have everything from touch pools to giant tanks full of stingrays and sharks! I loved the beautiful kelp forests, and of course the ever-stunning bright  jellyfish tanks.

If you have never been to this aquarium I highly recommend it. I would also recommend getting there early and on a weekday, as it got pretty crowded on a Sunday afternoon.

We saw every exhibit in about 2 hours and were able to get dinner on Cannery Row afterwards- definitely a perfect date night!

Love is in the air and Valentines day is right around the corner.

February has long been celebrated as a month of romance, and St. Valentine’s Day contains hints of both Christian and ancient Roman traditions.

Americans probably began exchanging hand-made valentines in the early 1700s.  By the middle of the 18th century it was common for friends and lovers of all social classes to exchange small gifts and handwritten notes.

In the 1840s  Esther A. Howland began selling the first mass-produced valentines in America which began to replace written letters due to improvements in printing technology.  Howland, known as the “Mother of the Valentine,” made elaborate creations with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures known as “scrap.” Today  an estimated 1 billion Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year. Women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines.

Regardless of how you celebrate on Valentines day, its not about the gifts but about the ones you care for! Do something sweet for the special person in your life, and tell your friends and family how much you love them!

The oldest known valentine still in existence today was a poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London.
